  • Summer break.

You know that magical time when you swear you’re finally going to get caught up on everything?

    Yeah…

    How’s that working out?

    The tire’s still low.

The oil stain on the driveway has officially become part of the landscaping.

The picture frames have been leaning against the wall so long they’re basically furniture.

    The floor needs sweeping.

The garage looks like a Home Depot exploded.

The fence still has that one board you’ve been “meaning to replace.”

    The kids…

“Oh my God… there’s nothing to eat.”

Meanwhile they’re standing three feet from a refrigerator full of food and somehow have forgotten they know how to operate a microwave.

    Amazing.

Every time I walk through the house I see another project staring back at me.

It’s like the house has eyes.

    “You gonna fix me today?”

    “…Nah.”

    Tomorrow.

    Always tomorrow.

    Then tomorrow becomes next week.

    Next week becomes next month.

Before you know it, summer’s over and you’re back at work saying,

    “I just never had time.”

    Really?

    Because Netflix says otherwise.

    So eventually…

You lock yourself in a room.

    Not to meditate.

    Not to pray.

To hold a damn staff meeting with every bad habit, excuse, procrastination demon, and lazy bone in your body.

    Gentlemen…

    We’ve had a good run.

But this place looks like chaos.

    The mission is simple.

    Air up the tire.

    Fix the leak.

    Hang the frames.

    Sweep the floor.

    Take out the trash.

Quit pretending YouTube shorts are a productive hobby.

    Could I hire somebody?

    Sure.

Then I’d complain about spending money.

Could I make the kids help?

    Absolutely.

Then I’d hear fifteen minutes about how I’m violating the Geneva Convention.

    So…

Looks like the demon team and I are clocking in.

Discipline isn’t about wanting to do it.

It’s about getting tired of living in controlled chaos.

    Now if you’ll excuse me…

I’ve got a meeting with management.

    And unfortunately…

    I’m management.

It’s convincing the idiots inside your own head to pick up a broom.
